Zones

Split one screen into several panels

What it does

One screen, doing more than one thing. Divide it into panels using one of the ready-made layouts, and fill each panel with whatever you already have: an image or video from your library, a whole playlist, or another app such as a menu board, the weather or a clock. Everything you put in a panel stays on screen for as long as the app runs — a video loops, a playlist plays through and starts again — so a promo clip can sit beside today's specials, or a welcome message above a live dashboard. Panels play silently, so nothing on the wall talks over anything else.

Every app in the catalogue is part of the plan. There is no app store, no per-app charge and nothing held back for a higher tier.

How to split a screen into zones

The Zones app divides one screen into panels and gives each its own content — a promo video beside today's menu, a welcome message above a live dashboard — all playing at once.

  1. 01

    Add the app

In the dashboard, open Apps and add Zones.

  2. 02

    Pick a layout

Under Layout, choose Duo (two panels side by side), Triptych (three across), Deck (one above the other), Tri-deck (three stacked) or Window (four in a 2×2 grid). Changing layout later keeps what the panels hold, in order; a layout with fewer panels drops the last ones.

  3. 03

    Fill each panel

Under Content, click a panel, then Choose content. Pick one image, video or app from the Media tab, or a whole playlist from the Playlists tab. An app has to be set up before it can go in a panel.

  4. 04

    Style the panels

Under Panel style, choose Fill the panel or Show all of it for pictures and video, and set the Colour behind the panels, Space between panels, Margin around the edge and Rounded corners.

  5. 05

    Put it on a screen

Add the app to a playlist, give it a duration and publish it to the screen.

Good to know

Content stays for the whole turn

Whatever is in a panel stays for as long as the Zones app is on screen: an image stays, an app keeps running and a video loops. A playlist in a panel plays through and starts again.

Panels are silent

No panel plays sound, so nothing on the wall talks over anything else.

Offline, panel by panel

What a panel does offline follows what is in it. An app that needs the internet — a web page, a live stream, YouTube or Canva — sits out until the connection returns, and anything else in that panel carries on.

Questions about this app

No, and there is no need: the Ticker app draws its band over the whole screen, Zones layout included. Choose the screen under Show on screens in the Ticker's own settings.

Each time the Zones app comes round, a playlist in a panel starts again from its first item, so only what fits in the app's duration is shown. Give the Zones app a longer duration.

No. A panel points at the item itself, so a change to a playlist or to an app's settings reaches every panel it is in.

Something for every kind of screen.

Install what you need and ignore the rest. Nothing here is an add-on you pay extra for.
