BBC News

World news from the BBC

What it does

Put the BBC's latest world news on your screens, refreshed on their own. Pick a layout — a single story, a full-screen cover, a rolling list — and optionally show a QR code so people can keep reading on their phone. Nothing to set up: the feed is built in.

Every app in the catalogue is part of the plan. There is no app store, no per-app charge and nothing held back for a higher tier.

How to show BBC News on a TV screen

Put the BBC's world news headlines on a screen in a reception, a staff room or a waiting area. The app is already set to the BBC News world feed, so there is no address to find or paste.

  1. 01

    Add the app

In the dashboard, open Apps and add BBC News.

  2. 02

    Pick a layout

Under Layout, choose how the BBC's stories are arranged. One story at a time is the default; Mosaic puts the whole front page up at once, which suits a large screen.

  3. 03

Set the look and the count

Choose a Light or Dark Theme. Leave Show QR code on so people can open a story on their phone, and open Feed Settings to set How many stories, from 1 to 20.

  4. 04

    Put it on a screen

Add the app to a playlist, give it a duration and publish it to the screen.

Good to know

Preset to world news

The app reads the BBC News world feed. The address is built in and does not appear in the form, so nobody has to look it up.

Checks every five minutes

New BBC stories reach the screen on their own. The app looks at the feed every five minutes.

Keeps its last stories offline

If the connection drops, the screen goes on showing the last stories it received and catches up once it is back.

Questions about this app

Not in this app, which stays on world news. Add the RSS feed app instead and give it the address of that section's feed, if the BBC publishes one.

No. It shows headlines and photos from the BBC's world news feed, with a short summary in some layouts. There is no video or sound.

To that story on the BBC website. It opens on the scanner's own phone, so they can finish reading after they walk away.

Something for every kind of screen.

Install what you need and ignore the rest. Nothing here is an add-on you pay extra for.
