Yodeck is one of the best-known names in digital signage for small and mid-sized businesses: a free screen, its own Raspberry Pi player shipped with annual plans, and support for almost every kind of screen. If you are reading this, you probably use it already or have it on a shortlist, and you want to know what else is out there.
We make SignageStack, so we are not a neutral judge. What we can do is put the two side by side using facts you can check: Yodeck's from its own pricing, feature and sub-processor pages, read on 18 October 2026, and ours from the product. Where Yodeck is the better choice, this article says so.
The short version
Yodeck is the better choice if you want one screen free for good, a player that arrives in the post, screens that run on Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, BrightSign or Fire TV, a large template library, video walls, touch kiosks, single sign-on, an API, or content scheduled by the hour.
SignageStack is worth a look if you want one price with every feature in it, play from an Android box, a Windows PC or a browser you already have, need Google Slides, Outlook or PowerPoint without moving up a tier, care about proof-of-play reports you can hand to someone else, or want the dashboard in Serbian, German, Spanish or Italian.
Price
Yodeck has four published plans and one on request. SignageStack has one.
| Yodeck | SignageStack |
|---|---|---|
Free | One screen, forever, with Basic features | No free plan |
Trial | 30 days, every feature, up to 5 screens, no card | 21 days, every feature, one screen, no card |
Per screen per month | Basic €8, Premium €11, Enterprise €15 | €11 |
Per screen per year | €96 / €132 / €180 | €100 |
Hardware | A Raspberry Pi player per screen with an annual plan, or a discount if you use your own device | Not sold; you use your own |
Users and storage | Unlimited users; unlimited storage under fair use | Unlimited users; files up to 1 GB each |
Paying | Card; wire transfer for annual plans | Bank transfer, against an invoice |
Yodeck's prices are from yodeck.com/pricing, which shows the same monthly figure for monthly and annual billing and does not say whether VAT is included. Ours exclude VAT and are on the pricing page.
The tier matters more than the headline number. Yodeck's Basic plan covers media, templates, the layout editor and basic scheduling. The Microsoft 365 and Google apps, data visualisation, the API and advanced scheduling start at Premium; single sign-on, custom roles and workspaces start at Enterprise. SignageStack has no tiers, so Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, Outlook and PowerPoint are in the €11.
Five screens for a year, as an example:
- Yodeck Basic: €480, with five players in the box, but without the Microsoft and Google apps.
- Yodeck Premium: €660, with five players and Yodeck Assurance, its cover for the player, which otherwise costs €1 per player a month.
- SignageStack: €500, plus the players. A screen that already has a PC or an Android box next to it adds nothing; a new Android box costs €40–120, which puts five new screens at €700–1,100 in the first year.
So in the first year, if you have to buy players, Yodeck costs less. If you use your own devices with Yodeck instead, its annual plans take €20 (Basic) or €60 (Premium, Enterprise) per screen off in place of the player. From the second year on, a screen costs €32 a year less with us than on Yodeck Premium, the tier with the Google and Microsoft apps, and €4 more than on Basic, which does not have them. What digital signage really costs goes through the rest of the bill, from screens to electricity.
Screens and players
This is where the gap is widest, and it is in Yodeck's favour.
Platform | Yodeck | SignageStack |
|---|---|---|
Its own player (Raspberry Pi 4) | Yes, free with annual plans | No |
Android | Yes | Yes, Android 8 or newer |
Windows | Yes | Yes |
Web browser | Yes | Yes, which is also the route on a Mac |
Samsung Tizen | Yes, up to Tizen 7 | No |
LG webOS | Yes | No |
Amazon Fire TV and Signage Stick | Yes | Not qualified |
BrightSign | Yes | No |
Raspberry Pi of your own | Yes | Not qualified |
If your screens are Samsung or LG smart TVs and you do not want a box behind them, Yodeck can run on the TV itself and we cannot. If you already have Android boxes, Android displays or Windows PCs, both products run on them.
Our Windows app is new. It starts with Windows, keeps the screen in a kiosk window, restarts itself after a crash and updates itself with a signed build that rolls back if it fails. The installer does not yet carry a Microsoft code-signing certificate, so Windows SmartScreen warns the first time it runs; the Windows post shows how to get past it. The Android app works on boxes, sticks, displays and tablets.
Apps and content
Yodeck lists over 800 templates and more than 160 apps. Our catalogue is a fraction of that, and there is no general template library: the designs are inside the apps, such as eleven menu board designs, five split-screen layouts in Zones and the display styles of the clock, calendar, weather and news apps.
What the SignageStack apps cover:
- Google and Microsoft: Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar and PowerPoint from OneDrive, plus importing media from Google Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint and Dropbox.
- Canva: connect your Canva account and pick a design, and the screen shows the current version.
- Video and the web: YouTube, live streams and web pages.
- Menus and messages: the menu board (CSV import, categories, logo and accent colour), ticker, emergency alert, countdown, QR code, text and PDF.
- Live data: weather, air quality, exchange rates, crypto prices, electricity prices, public holidays and RSS news.
What we do not have, and Yodeck does: a template library, a free-form layout editor (Zones has five fixed layouts), video walls, interactive kiosks and interactive playlists, a Power BI app, an AI assistant and a public API. If any of those is on your list, Yodeck is the closer fit.
Scheduling
This is our biggest gap, so we put it plainly. In SignageStack each screen has working hours: on and off times for every day of the week, or a special date range for a holiday or an event. A playlist plays whenever the screen is on. There is no scheduling of single items by date or hour, so breakfast and lunch menus at different times of day need someone to switch the playlist, or a split-screen layout that shows both.
Yodeck has working hours, repeating events and a calendar for schedules, with advanced media scheduling from Premium up. If your content has to change by itself during the day, that counts for a lot.
Offline playback and monitoring
Both players store media on the device and keep playing when the internet drops. Yodeck states that its players work offline for at least a month and up to 35 days. Ours keeps the last playlist and the screen's working hours on the device and cached media for up to 30 days, and logs what played while offline so the report has no gap. On both, web pages, YouTube and live streams need a connection.
For keeping an eye on screens, both send an email when screens go offline, and both take a screenshot of what the screen shows. In SignageStack:
- Every player reports every thirty seconds, so the dashboard shows what each screen is playing and when it was last seen.
- Each screen's Uptime tab lists when it was online, offline, running without internet or with the display off, every restart with its reason, and an uptime figure for the hours it was meant to be on.
- The offline report goes to up to 20 addresses, inside or outside your company, from every 30 minutes to once a day, and it says whether each screen is back. Nothing is sent when every screen stayed up.
- Screenshots work in the Android and Windows apps, not in a browser.
- A remote restart is done by our support, not from a button in your dashboard.
Proof of play
Yodeck has playback reports. Ours keep the detail for 90 days and a monthly summary after that, export to CSV and to a signed PDF that anyone can check for tampering, and can be emailed daily, weekly or monthly to people outside the account, such as an advertiser or a franchise owner. If you sell airtime on your screens, that is the part of SignageStack worth testing first.
Users, security and data
| Yodeck | SignageStack |
|---|---|---|
Roles | Standard roles; custom roles on Enterprise | Admin, Member and Viewer for the whole organisation |
Two-step sign-in | Yes | Yes, with an authenticator app and recovery codes |
Single sign-on (SAML) | Enterprise | No |
Workspaces for teams or locations | Enterprise | No; roles apply to every screen |
Where data is stored | AWS in Ireland and Sweden, by its sub-processor list | Providers in the EU and the US, under standard contractual clauses |
If your rules require data to be stored only in the EU, Yodeck's sub-processor page says that is where its data sits, and ours does not. Our sub-processors are named in the privacy policy: MongoDB Atlas, Cloudflare, Railway, Vercel, Resend and Sentry, plus Google, Microsoft and Canva for the apps you connect, and Google Analytics on the website if you accept its cookies. SignageStack's terms are governed by Serbian law, and its privacy policy follows both Serbian data-protection law and the GDPR.
To add a screen to SignageStack, you type the six-character code it shows into the dashboard. The code works once and expires, so no password is ever typed on a screen, and you can sign in to the dashboard with Google.
Languages
The SignageStack dashboard is in English, Serbian, German, Spanish and Italian, and so are the website and the guide for every app. That matters most when the person updating the menu or the noticeboard is not the person who chose the software.
Moving from Yodeck to SignageStack
There is no import from Yodeck, so moving is done by hand, and for most small setups it takes an afternoon:
- Take your media with you. Collect the original images and videos, or import them from the Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox folder they already sit in.
- Rebuild the playlists. Upload the media, add the apps you used (weather, calendar, Google Slides) and set how long each item stays on screen.
- Check the players. Android boxes and Windows PCs can run our app. A Yodeck Raspberry Pi player cannot, and neither can a Tizen or webOS TV running Yodeck without a box; those screens need an Android box or a PC.
- Run both for a week. Start the trial on one screen and leave the others on Yodeck until you are sure. Our trial covers one screen for 21 days.
- Set the working hours and the offline report, then cancel Yodeck for the screens you moved.
How to choose digital signage software has a longer checklist for any switch.
How to decide
Set the two side by side on your own screen for a week. Pull the network cable for an hour, change something while it is out, and see how each dashboard reports the time you were away. Then compare the price for the number of screens you will really have in a year, at the tier that has the apps you need.
Yodeck is a trademark of its owner. SignageStack has no connection with Yodeck, and the details about it here come from its public pages on 18 October 2026; prices and features change, so check them before you buy. If something here is out of date, write to office@signagestack.com and we will correct it.
